Jurnee Smollett Says #FreeJussie: “You Don’t Have to Believe in His Innocence to Believe He Should Be Free”

Published: Sunday 13th Mar 2022 by Sam

Jussie Smollett may not have received the support of the judge or jury in his hoax hate attack case, however, his family are standing by his side.

Case in point is his actress sister Jurnee Smollett.

The ‘Lovecraft Country’ star has launched the #FreeJussie movement and slammed his five-month jail sentence in the process

Full story below…

Taking to social media, the 35-year-old shared the following:

“Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly five times the rate of White Americans. Jussie is innocent. And…you don’t have to believe in his innocence to believe he should be free.
#FreeJussie #StopLockingUpOurPeople

As reported, Jussie was convicted on five of the six counts leveled against him for faking the hoax hate crime

The former ‘Empire’ star was immediately reprimanded after a Cook Country judge denied the impassioned pleas of the defense to issue a probation order instead of a jail sentence.

Do you agree with Jurnee?

Yt ppl make false police reports on blk ppl all the time with no jail time. When it first happened I thought he should do jail time too but as time went on I changed my stance. He should have been punished but they threw the book at him like most blk ppl. A Karen wouldn’t have been charged with a crime at all.

Embellishing the truth is bad enough, but the difference is Jussie started with a complete lie and put on a whole production with prop pieces and superficial abrasions. He tried to rally the LGBTQ community against everyone with his “I am the gay Tupac” speech, and he identified his attackers as being white Trump supporters. He went to a larger extent than most with this hoax, and he still won’t give it up. He wouldn’t be in jail if he had admitted the truth. That’s the choice he made, not the judge.

      • WEB March 13, 2022

        I agree with you 100%.

    • Shirley Amato March 13, 2022

He did something bad. If he would have just admitted it he might not be in jail. Don’t make thus about race or politics. He committed a crime.

      • SickNTired March 13, 2022

        100% Agree

      • WEB March 13, 2022

        I agree with you completely.

The best time to avoid jail time, if possible, is in the pre-trial phase. Jussie Smollett should have taken accountability, paid his fines, and worked whatever deal he could to get very little or no jail time rather than letting a losing case get to trial.

I don’t think he should be in jail for the original crime, but at this point, he is being punished for taking this hoax this far.

    • Respect THAT March 13, 2022

You absolutely right. I didn’t think he should get jail time at first either but he wasted a lot of money, resources, and the court’s time and that’s the biggest middle finger to the legal system. If he would have just been accountable from the beginning like you said they might have considered probation but this man went through 2 trials defending this lie as hard as he could as if he was above the law. He didn’t even care to at least TRY to make the judge THINK he was even the LEAST bit remorseful and that was his biggest fault.

      • WEB March 13, 2022

I agree with you completely.I couldn’t have said it any better myself!

#FreeJussie I don’t think he should’ve gotten jail maybe community service.

    • Foxy Brown March 13, 2022

Cancel the entire Smollett family. They thought that their Jewish side would get Jussie out of trouble. Don’t drop the soap, Bussie.

  8. DeanD March 13, 2022

It’s not just the crime. And yes, the law should be applied to everyone equally when it comes to making a false report. But it’s the years of lies in the face of obvious evidence. It’s the lack of remorse. It’s that it was a hoax meant to exploit this country’s horrendous history of racism and homophobia. But not to bring awareness to these issues but to glow up his own damn career. He took it primetime, bragged about being a survivor and duped a lot of people who would of course be sympathetic to a victim hate crime. It’s clear Jussie needs mental health and maybe now after nuking his own career, credibility and now incarceration he’ll get some. And maybe Jurnee does too because she’s risking her own career and credibility by standing up for this obvious con man.

    • IJS March 13, 2022

Actually, the case had been dropped because the first prosecutor saw how ridiculous it was and declined it wasn’t worth it to press charges against him, especially with all of the other way more serious crime going on in Chicago. Then for some reason, some white person above her decided a special prosecutor should be appointed to see why he wasn’t indicted and to pursue charges. Yes, what he did was 100% wrong. But if anyone is guilty of wasting time, resources, and money here, it’s the judicial system themselves. They dragged this out further than it needed to go. Chicago is not any safer with Jussie behind bars. No one’s name has been vindicated. And no justice was served to anyone. They’re just putting the screws to him and punishing him for lying. It’s spiteful prosecution and very petty.

    • WEB March 13, 2022

I agree with you totally. If I had been the one to go through all of this trouble with a hoax, I would’ve truly gotten the book thrown at me. And I have a clean record. I’m just not famous. I would’ve at least gotten a year in jail.

This has to be one of the most ridiculously blown out of proportion stories I’ve ever seen in my life.

The fact that we are STILL TALKING ABOUT THIS when you got human trafficking at an all time high, missing persons and muders left and right, a whole entire WW3 about to begin, rights and lives are being stripped from people more and more each day… Yet we are STILL TALKING ABOUT THIS NARCISSIST

    • True Tea March 13, 2022

      This!

You pretty much summed up why we’re still talking about Jussie. I believe we’re currently in OR heading towards a massive die off. The pandemic pretty much set the stage since it has “isolated” ppl for 3 years.

It’s the fact those whom are sociopathic are becoming more empowered post C O V I D, even among our own Entertainers & so called leadership.

      • IJS March 13, 2022

Thise issues aren’t mutually exclusive. Malicious prosecution shouldn’t be overlooked just because we’re on the brink of a world war. You don’t have to like him, but over punishment of simple crimes should not be tolerated. It’s an issue that could potentially bite you too.

      • J March 13, 2022

I’m just looking at everyone that’s still talking about this with the major SIDE EYE. There’s only one reason why this story is still being publicized. Good luck to anyone trying to report a hate crime now. Jussie completely f***** that up. For someone who actually has been harassed this is just making my blood boil from all angles.

  11. Ugghh March 13, 2022

one thing i like about Black family is they never admitted they are wrong. Black excellence!

    JUSSIE SMOLLETT

    • Foxy Brown March 13, 2022

      Loose Power Bottom Jussie Smollett

  13. SickNTired March 13, 2022

Not only is Jussie a narcissist, but it appears so his entire family. He should be locked up for a year for this crime. He compromised every legitimate hate crime against average, everyday Black men like me. I hope he spends the next 75-150 days atoning for his selfish criminal behavior. And to his family — support him, but don’t expect us to. Stop making a race issue where non exists. Remember, he tried to get two other Black Men (Nigerians) locked up for his foolishness. You all look as narcissistic as he does. STFU

    • IJS March 13, 2022

Oh please! He has no more credited nor discredited hate crimes than anyone else who has ever lied and gotten caught (Insert multiple white women here). As long as there’s proof, you can still get justice. Jussie’s sentence does nothing to improve any pending hate crime cases.

  14. Lisa March 13, 2022

He’ll be out in two and a half months on goof behaviour, which won’t be difficult given that he’s pretty much serving his sentence I’m solitary with special superstar privileges like day releases. Not really sure what all the fuss is about, she should be grateful it wasn’t more severe than it could’ve been.

  15. truthteller March 13, 2022

The whole Smollett family are deluded. The fact that they are still saying he is innocent is laughable. They are either challenged in some way or mentally ill and mad that Michelle Obama calling in favours did not keep their brother out of jail.

  16. Peace March 13, 2022

Karen didn’t get locked up for all her accusations.

  17. Anonymous March 13, 2022

He got jail time not prison! They gave him 5 months & he’ll get out in three! To say he didn’t deserve it is a joke! He deserved way more time. Now real victims will be harder to be believed! He definitely did it! All the evidence was there. Where is your compassion for the Osundairo brothers? He blamed them & they are the innocent ones! He should have been given more time for that letter with the powdery substance he sent himself! He did way too much & can’t tell the truth to save his life! Defiance until the end with his narracistic self! What makes him think anyone would want to kill him? Lol. He’s not Epstein & their cases are completely different. He got off easy! They should have sent him to prison instead of jail. He shouldn’t be treated any different than anybody else. If it had been a white man, he would have been hung! So quit whining!

  18. WEB March 13, 2022

I know if I was the one who did this, I would be in jail. And I would’ve gotten at least 1 year in jail. And I have a clean record and I am white. But I know for a fact I would spend at least one year in jail for this. Just bc he’s famous and black doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve what he got.

    • J March 13, 2022

      Don’t be ignorant

  19. No March 14, 2022

Um Regardless of jussie the police still treat hate crimes against blacks the same. So plz save the whole “ it’s making it harder for real victims “ bullshįt.

How sad that integrity is missing from young black men and women today. To actually want people to agreed with supporting lies, and disengenous behavior and try to reconcile it to black injustice. Mr. Smollett created this situation, and now he needs to be a man and own what he did. No more lies
